A Night That Will Stay With Me — Vinnies CEO Sleepout

There are some experiences that stop you in your tracks.

The Vinnies CEO Sleepout was one of them. As I lay there trying to genuinely imagine what it would feel like to have nowhere to go, I found myself deeply humbled, reflecting in a way I didn't quite expect.

The highlight of the evening was meeting Renee.

Renee is extraordinary. She had actually participated in the Vinnies Sleepout herself years ago, and this January, her world turned upside down. After leaving a domestic violence relationship, she found herself locked out of every bank account she had, homeless, and trying to protect her 21 year old daughter at the same time.

Six months later, with enormous personal strength and the support of Vinnies, Renee and her daughter have permanent accommodation and are rebuilding their lives.

And yet, there she was at the Sleepout. Showing up. Sharing her story. Giving back.

I don't have words big enough for that kind of courage.

I feel so honored to have been part of the fundraising efforts that night, and so grateful to everyone who supported me. Events like this are a reminder of why community matters and why organisations like Vinnies do such vital work.
